Our visit from Mr. Byrne

Today we were visited by Mr. Byrne who is an OPP officer. He came to help the children understand what his job as a community helper is. The students were fascinated by all of the items he carried on his belt and had many great questions for him. Thank you again Mr. Byrne for taking time out and coming to visit us. We truly enjoyed your visit.

What is it?

The students were interested to explore the new item on the table this morning. Responses to the question What is it? Varied from radio to piano. The students were interested in pushing the buttons and investigating the different spaces on it. Later in the day we added a cassette and headphones. They were interested in trying to figure out how everything works and to hear it play. Who would have thought the tape recorder would be an unknown item. Stay tuned as we explore further.

Reminder - Book Orders

Just a reminder that Scholastic book orders are due this Friday!

Response to the story Press Here

Today Mr. Fields read the story Press Here. There were lots of patterns in the story which the children were able to identify and extend. Our program in P4.1 Math, states that the students should be able to identify, create, reproduce and extend repeating patterns through investigation, using a variety of materials. The students are finding patterns in books, creating their own and extending patterns in their play.

Growth Mindset Challenge - The Cup Challenge

This morning with the help of some senior leaders, we began to learn the steps for the cup challenge. There are many steps to learn this challenge. We have not mastered it YET but we are working on it. Although sometimes it is frustrating to remember all of the steps, we keep trying. The students all know that we never give up and we don't sayI Can't. We let them know that it's ok to ask for help and that we learn from our mistakes. For More on the cup challenge visit You Tube and search the cup song tutorials. This will show you the steps that we are learning. The whole school is doing this and we are anxious to see what it looks like in a month.

Creative Colours

I am making new colours. I colour a circle, then I add a drop of glue. When I'm done that, I take the Popsicle stick and mix it up. This is making new colours.
