Growth Mindset Challenge

Sometimes when we try and do things, it is not easy but we never give up and we don't say I can't. Today we divided a sheet of paper in half. They the students saw the picture(below) for the first time. The students had to draw the picture on one half of the paper. When they were done, we talked about how their picture looked compared to the example. Noah noticed that he forgot the windows. They were than asked to draw the same picture again but this time they had to try and make it better. Some chose to make the tree better, others worked on the house. In the older grades they had to do it four times and with their non dominant hand. Tyral said this is hard.

Izabela noticed that her size was not right so she was going to focus on that for the second time.

The Smallest Snowman

Who will win the biggest snowman contest? The children made predictions and then found out what happened. They also noticed that there was an igloo in the story just like the one that we are building in class. The igloo in the story is made of all rectangles noted Vera.

Building permits

As the students are building, they are now filling out building permits. This encourages the students to develop a plan, write about it, draw it out and share who did it. The students are excited to share their plans with their classmates.

Making an Igloo

When the snow began to fall last week, the students wondered if we could build an igloo. They decided that there wasn't enough snow outside but if we used boxes, we could build it inside. We researched pictures of igloos and they noticed that there were squares and rectangles in the pictures. So the collection of boxes began and the painting has started.

The Final Countdown

Noah, Julian and Avah were busy building a stage for their production. They were recreating a dance party video that they had seen.

We are baking cookies for the big dance. First we need to need the dough and then we roll it out and use the cutters. Once the tray is done, we put them in the oven to cook. They are vanilla cookies.

We Are on Stage

Frozen lives on. The girls were performing the song Let it Go on the stage that they built. They noted that they had put ramps on each side of the stage so that they could get up and down easily and not worry about tripping. The right side is to go on and the left side is to get off the stage. This way people don't crash.  We have books because we pretend that they are IPads. We need the iPads because they have the words to songs on them.

Noah's Spaceship

I made a spaceship from magnetic blocks. I used blue green and red. It almost looks like I made a pattern. The blue car goes super fast. The Wolverine car has clogs that come out when it's driving.
