The Stairs
An adventure in building this morning turned in to this staircase being built and tested. The boys said that it wasn't safe enough because the stairs kept moving when they were trying to climb. A discussion ensued about how a staircase is built and how it doesn't move in their house. In the afternoon, they recreated the staircase and then created a game. The rules stated that you could only go up two steps and then you had to try and toss the car car into the hole at the end. Later they placed a small log at the end and the goal was to try and land their car on the top of the log. At one point, they were measuring the distance from the stair to the end, trying to determine how much they had to move it closer to the stairs before someone would get it in.

Planting
The students have started talking about the plants that they are seeing growing outside. We have have started looking at the plant life cycle. They asked if they could start some plants. So we have beans, carrots, flowers and tomatoes started. Some are started in plastic bottles, some in cups and some in cartons. Thank you to Jesse for bring in the bottles for us to use. They have become aware of recycling, reusing and reducing from the stories that we are reading in class. They are really trying hard to lessen the garbage in their lunches too.

Now the Gingerbread Man is happily living in his new home. It's neat that how months later the students will retell stories that they heard before.
