The Race Track

There is a big wall in the middle of our race track. The goal is to jump the wall. We found that the car needs to go fast so that it can flip over the wall. If the car goes slow it will hit wall and crash.

A student was busy creating a house with the magnetic shapes. He noted all of the colours that he used in his creation. Also he was able to share that he used eight squares for the top. He went on to show me that as he put the squares together he made cubes. Look at the learning and knowledge that was shared as he was playing. We then talked about how he used the triangles to make a square because he didn't have enough squares.

Children's Safety Village Field Trip

The SK students went on a field trip to the Children's Safety Village. They spent the morning learning about 911 emergency, pedestrian safety, and strangers. Officer O'Neil and the Co-op students taught the children when it is the proper time to call 911 and the information they need to know during an emergency. The students went to three different groups where they had opportunities in practicing calling 911, talking about the difference between a bad and a good stranger, and road safety. Afterwards we went outside into the safety village where the students practised crossing the street. Parents, we encourage you to talk about what happened at the safety village with your child. It is important that they know their phone number and home address in case of an emergency. In addition, parents can discuss when to call 911, what to do when a stranger approaches them and what to do when crossing a street.

Before we left Elmer the safety elephant came to visit us and to tell the boys and girls to stay safe!

Daily Shared Writing

We are really learning our sight words. Today we were surprised by the number of words that we knew that started with the letter V.

Adding on the I pad

I Will Never not Ever Eat a Tomato

The students have continued their interest in different foods and vegetables. They have made vegetable soup in the sensory table. They continue to cook with them while at play at the dramatic play centre. Today we read this story that talks about a picky eater. Lola doesn't like fruits and vegetables or trying new friends. Charlie, the other character in the story tricks Lola into trying new foods and Lola realizes that she likes them.

Flags of the World

Brian started drawing different flags. He asked how he could find more flags. We went over to Google images and he couldn't believe how many different flags there are.

Something new in the sensory table

3D shapes

Miss H (student teacher) has set up the shape museum in the class. The students have been busy finding things that they can put in the museum.

Fruits and vegetables

We have been talking about fruits and vegetables. The students have done sorting activities, graphing and today we got to sample dragon fruit and celery. Mmm good was the response from most.

Using our I Pads to go on a shape scavenger hunt.

The students worked in groups of three and as they toured the school, they were taking pictures of circles, squares, spheres and cubes. When they returned to the classroom, they shared the pictures of shapes that they took on the IPads.
